昔ながらの手織りから、あたらしい価値と関係性を
Creating new value and relations from old-style handweaving
手織りでしか織れない糸で織り、上質なライフスタイルアイテムを創る。東京の建築会社に勤めていた楠木泰彦さんは、趣味のサーフィンを存分に楽しみながら働きたいと、丹後に帰ってきた。こだわるのはシルクの手織り。木工技術が自慢の「デザイン橡」と一緒に、ネクタイの生地幅が織れる手織りの織機を設計し、独力でメンズネクタイを完成させた。その後、工場長の川端さん、地域の子育てママさんらにも手織り技術を伝えて製造は任せ、自分は営業にまわるように。男性社員は楠木さんを含めて3名のみの少数精鋭チームだ。
手織りでゆずれないのは、風合い。手織りでしか織れない不均一な糸を集めて織物に仕上げていく。着なくなった着物を裂いて作った糸を新しい生地に生まれ変わらせる素材の活用は、SDGsの観点でも注目されている。
世界最高水準のネクタイとして欧州等でも認められるクオリティの一方、原価率が高いのがネックで、ブランド力の向上が必要と考えている。夏場には修理を無料で受け付け、商品の傷むポイント把握して商品開発に活かしたり、技術を上げたり、お客様と直接コミュニケーションする機会にしたりと、マーケティング思考を欠かさない。豊岡の鞄店とのコラボレーションや靴やマスクも手掛けている。
Sophisticated life-style items made with fabric weaved with yarns that can be only used in hand-weaving. Yasuhiko Kusunoki, who used to work for a construction company in Tokyo, is dedicated to hand-weaving silk. Working with Design Tochi (pg 50), known for their woodcraft skills, KUSKA has designed a weaving loom in order to produce narrow fabric for ties by hand. They upcycle yarns made from used kimono and let them reborn to be something new: such a SDGs-conscious way to produce. KUSKA also produces shoes, masks, etc. and collaborates with a bag store in Toyo’oka in Hyogo pref.
