切り出した木材を乾燥する方法には「人工」と「自然」の2種類があるのをご存知だろうか。人工乾燥は、機械で乾燥・処理をすることで時間とコストの両面で効率が良い反面、木本来の香りや色が失われてしまう。対して、天然乾燥は2年ほどの長い時間をかけて乾かすことで、木の成分や色が残り、強度も高い。建築材として使われたあとも、優しい木の香りがずっと続く。
高岡建材では、京都府産の自然乾燥材にこだわり、さらには木材だけでなく、アルミ材などの加工も手掛けており、まさに「適材適所」で要望や用途に応じた建材を提供してくれる。広い工場のレールを木が走り、機械の中を通過することで削られていく。削ったあとの余った部分はチップになり、畑や牧場の肥料として使われる。長い時間をかけて大切に育てられた木材が余すところなく地域内で循環している。
最近では、リノベーションにも力を入れており、宮津の文化財・旧三上家住宅の離れを一棟貸しの宿にするなど、住空間の提案も手掛けている。さらには、与謝野町の自社ショールームをクラフトビール事業を展開する地元ベンチャー「ローカルフラッグ」や学習塾に貸し出しも。誰かの夢を応援することが丹後の活性化につながると信じて、地域貢献活動にも積極的に参加している。
There are two ways of drying wood, “articial” and “natural.” Articial drying has a higher efciency both in time and cost, yet the natural fragrance and color of wood can be lost. Natural drying which Takaoka Kenzai is committed to takes around two years, however, their method leaves natural component and color of wood, making them stronger as building material, and the gentle fragrance of wood can be enjoyed forever. They recycle leftover wood by turning them into chips and using them as fertilizer for elds and farms. Trees that are grown with delicate care over a long time are circulated in the area without wasting any part.
