A Kyoto style workshop where you can meet traditional textile, Nishijin-kasuri and other handicrafts.
京都らしい、ひっそりとした路地裏にある町家工房。一階では、西陣絣や手染め製品の他、明治時代の布帳などがあり、職人の説明を受けながら見ることができる。
絣の技術を使う、天然染色ワークショップや西陣絣説明会も開催。二階には織り機と絣加工の木枠があり、織りの実演など製作の様子を見学することができる。
As you walk through the quiet alley of Kyoto, you will find a workshop of Itohen Universe in a Machiya; traditional Japanese wooden townhouse.
In the first floor, you can learn about a Kyoto’s ikat weaving called Nishijin-kasuri, and other products made of hand-dyed textiles produced by Itohen Universe. Craftsman will be welcomed to explain you about their product and show the sample book full of authentic pieces of Nishijin-kasuri fabric from Meiji-era (1868 to 1912). You can either join a natural dyeing workshop making your own hand-dyed fabric with the Nishijin-kasuri technique, or an information session of Nishijin-kasuri.
In the second floor, there are Japanese wooden looms and a special tool used for Nishijin-kasuri making. Weaving demonstration will be shown as well.
