One of the world's few remaining Collotype atelier.
1887年に創業、その後1905年に印刷工房を開設以後、精緻な濃淡表現を得意とする古典印画技法“コロタイプ“を継承してきた便利堂。写真を原版とした製版過程と、繊維が豊富な和紙に堅牢な油性インキを用いてイメージを刷り重ねる事から、日本の重要な文化財の複製を多数制作している。近年は作品制作のために世界各国の作家が工房を訪れる。
Benrido was founded in 1887 as a print shop. In 1905, Benrido began using the classic collotype printing technique which is known to produce varying shades as well as fine detailed prints. A number of important Japanese cultural properties have been reproduced by this process using photography to make the printing plate, overlaying it with strong oil-based ink, and printing on texturally rich washi paper.

工房見学は随時行います / Free entry during the opening hours of the atelier.
25日-28日にはコロタイプギャラリーにて、コロタイプ技術を紹介する展示会を開催します。ギャラリーから、印刷の作業風景をご見学いただけます。
29日には、写真スタジオ・製版室・ワークショップスタジオの見学ができるスペシャルツアーを開催。参加費4000円、所要時間 約3時間、前日18時までに予約必要。（定員15名）/ ￥4,000; Approx. 3 hours. Reservation required for the workshop on Feb. 29 (by 18:00 on Feb. 28). (max 15 people)
