A new realm of Buddhist altar born from the Hodo-kumi

大正4年（1915年）の創業以来、京都で三代に渡り紫檀仏壇づくりひとすじ100余年。奈良時代から珍重される「紫檀」は、木質が緻密で木目が美しく、耐朽性も極めて高い高級木材。重厚な木質の加工には長い時間と高度な技術の両方が求められる。
生活や住宅の様式が急速に変化する現代においても、ご先祖様を敬い、祀る仏壇は、家族にとって特別な意味を持つもの。木の特徴を活かす確かな手仕事技術を応用した新たなモノづくりにも挑戦している。

Since 1915, Miyabe Butsudan has been focusing on the Buddhist Altar using red sandalwood only, which is regarded as a rare species back in the Nara era (710-794). Its beautifully patterned grains and extremely durable traits are suitable for Buddhist altars, though it takes a large amount of time to craft, and requires a high degree of skills. Miyabe Butsudan produces Buddhist altars where people’s respect for their ancestors is placed.
